Qualities Desired in a Candidate For Priesthood or Religious Life
God equips those He calls. Check out these qualities. Has God given you the gifts that the Church needs in its priests, sisters and brothers? All of these don't have to be fully developed, but if God has given you the begining of these spiritual gifts, might it mean that He has given you the accompanying call to use them in the service of His people?

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE BENEDICT XVI FOR THE 43rd WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
The celebration of the coming World Day of Prayer for Vocations gives Pope Benedict XVI the opportunity to invite the entire People of God to meditate the theme Vocation in the mystery of the Church. Remembering the counsel of Jesus: “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest”. (Mt 9,37), the Pope invites us to acknowledge the great need to pray for vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life.

Pope Benedict XVI on the Priesthood
The priest must be a believer, one who converses with God. If this is not the case, then all his activities are futile. The most lofty and important thing a priest can do for people is first of all being what he is: a believer.

Jesus never asked for volunteers!
In the story of the call of the apostles there is not even a hint that they volunteered for the call they received. If Jesus is calling you to follow him in as a priest he is not asking you to volunteer, He is asking you to listen closely to Him at the center of your life because the way you were created means that your only true happiness is to follow His call and not to "volunteer" for what you want to do!
